02 May 2024 by Megan Maxwell

The all-new Renault Symbioz enters a distinguished lineage of family vehicles, nearly six decades following the debut of the Renault 16 with its generous and practical layout, and four decades after the groundbreaking Espace, a versatile vehicle measuring just 4.25 meters in length yet capable of accommodating seven passengers.

Renault Family Favourite Interior

Introduced in 1965, the Renault 16 was a departure from the norm, introducing a novel body style with hatchback access to the boot. Offering greater versatility than its competitors, the Renault 16 boasted a bench seat with a ‘holiday travel’ configuration, catering to the evolving needs of families amidst rapidly changing social dynamics.

Since then, Renault has remained at the forefront of innovation in family vehicles, exemplified by the Espace in the 1980s. This vehicle sparked a revolution with its pioneering one-box design and adaptable layout. During the 1990s, Renault once again reshaped the market with the introduction of the Scénic, the first compact MPV. Designed to cocoon passengers in comfort, the Scénic prioritised passenger well-being with its thoughtfully crafted interior.

The Symbioz inherits this rich heritage. With the ability to adjust its boot and passenger area to suit familial requirements, coupled with practical technologies and compact dimensions ideal for urban driving, it continues Renault’s tradition of versatile models that mirror our evolving lifestyles. Showcasing Renault’s latest design language, the Symbioz follows in the footsteps of the recent Scenic E-Tech electric, marking the latest addition to Renault’s innovative product lineup.

Family-Friendly Compact Car

Blending the finest qualities of Renault’s C-segment vehicles, including modular design, connectivity, and efficiency, the Symbioz is imbued with ability and intelligence, ensuring top-tier onboard comfort for both short commutes and long journeys. As a result, it appeals to a wide customer base. Primarily, it caters to families seeking spaciousness and efficiency paired with contemporary, adaptable design. Additionally, it caters to corporate fleet managers seeking electrification options while maintaining cost efficiency. For both customer segments, the Symbioz offers an uncompromising win-win solution.

Positioned beneath the Austral, the Symbioz strengthens Renault’s presence in the C-segment entry-level market. With a length of just 4.41 meters, this new model complements the E-Tech ‘hybrid’ range, alongside the Arkana (4.57 meters) and Austral (4.51 meters), while expanding the E-Tech ‘electric’ range with the Megane and Scenic E-Tech electric. This underscores Renault’s strategic coherence in catering to diverse user needs through a dual range of dedicated platforms.

Contemporary Design

Crafted on the extended version of the CMF-B platform, the Symbioz embodies a harmonious blend of proportions. Even the elongated rear overhang, hinting at ample boot space of 624 litres, contributes to the fluidity of the overall design. The rear complements the contemporary, assertive front, characterised by its elevated, horizontal bonnet and vertical lines.

Reflecting Renault’s new design language, the Symbioz showcases sculptural elements at both its front and rear, accentuating the sleek, clean lines of its side panels. The crisp edges of the front and rear panels catch the light, lending a refined sophistication to the faceted contours. The redesigned Renault logo takes centre stage, appearing complete at the grille’s heart, split vertically for the light signature, or transformed into a graphic motif on the radiator grille.

In harmony with its design ethos, the Symbioz boasts large 19-inch wheels in both techno and iconic Alpine styles. Their sharply defined lines create a dynamic visual effect, imparting a sense of motion even when the vehicle is stationary.

The tapered headlights endow the car with a penetrating stare. A black strip running between the lights lends the frontal area a sleeker appearance while visually broadening the vehicle. This strip echoes the lower body-coloured strip, creating a mirrored effect in their patterns.

The sculpted, generous, and dynamic rear end captures and reflects light continuously, enhancing the car’s visual presence while helping passage through narrow spaces. The vertical tailgate hints at the abundant interior space within.

Available in seven colours, including the vibrant new Mercury Blue, the Symbioz offers a range of expressive options. The iconic Flame Red is provided free of charge in the configurator, which also offers Arctic White, Oyster Grey, Diamond Black, Ceramic Grey, and Iron Blue.

Packed inside with Renault’s Best

The Symbioz is brimming with cutting-edge Renault technologies. It boasts the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google integration, alongside the Solarbay opacifying glass sunroof, and up to 24 new-generation driving aids for enhanced safety and driving comfort.

With a modular layout featuring a sliding bench seat that folds down to create a flat floor, the Symbioz stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the finest offerings in its class. Despite this, it keeps its compactness and agility, making it equally adept in urban traffic and family settings. The Symbioz epitomises versatility at its finest.

This new eco-friendly and economically efficient family car tips the scales at under 1,500 kg. Equipped with the E-Tech hybrid 145 powertrain, the Renault Symbioz ranks among the top performers in terms of fuel efficiency and emissions, thanks to its exclusive, ultra-efficient technology, continuously refined since its introduction in 2020.

Following the Arkana, Megane E-Tech electric, Austral, and Scenic E-Tech electric, the Symbioz completes Renault’s lineup of compact vehicles, marking the culmination of the Renaulution offensive in the C segment.
