There are various types of benefits and allowances that enable you to be eligible for Motability.
If you’re eligible for Motability, then you can get the ball rolling on searching for a car, and getting in touch with your nearest dealer to make an order.
Those looking to join the Motability Scheme will be eligible if they receive one of the following six disability allowances:
Note: If you receive one of the above allowances, you must have at least 12 months left before its renewal to be able to join the Motability Scheme.
Your allowance award letter will tell you your award length, while you can also contact your allowance provider to find out.
If you have less than 12 months left, then you’ll need to wait until your provider renews your allowance.
The following do not meet eligibility requirements for the Motability Scheme:
Yes - you don’t need to be able to drive to get a Motability car, as up to three named drivers can drive it for you.
As long as you meet the criteria for the right type of allowance, and the car is in your name, you’ll be eligible.
There is no limit on a maximum age - as long as you are receiving the qualifying allowances with at least 12 months left, you’ll be eligible for Motability.
If you are the parent or guardian of a child over the age of three who receives one of the applicable allowances, you’ll be able to make the order on their behalf.
