With a passion for reinvention, CUPRA has dedicated the past four years to taking motorsport higher and faster. They’ve gone beyond traditional standards with their e-Racer – an electric touring car without equal in terms of power or sustainability – plus numerous achievements from competitions like Extreme E and FIA ETCR series. From its racing roots through today’s green revolution, CUPRA is pushing boundaries on every track across the globe.

Formula E Competition

In a bold move that reflects its commitment to electrification by 2030, CUPRA is taking their innovations into the world’s preeminent electric racing competition: Formula E. A visionary shift in performance and sustainability are united as CUPRA races forth with partner ABT towards breakthroughs of tomorrow.

The FIA Formula E Championship is an all-electric single-seater racing series. It was founded by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) as a global championship, with 10 teams and 20 drivers competing in races around the world. The inaugural season began in Beijing on 13 September 2014 and ended in London on 14 June 2015. The series is sanctioned by the FIA. Alejandro Agag is the founder and CEO of Formula E Holdings.

Formula E and CUPRA are two sides of the same coin – both share a commitment to technology, innovation and sustainability. This passion for progress is bringing together an audience made up of thrill seekers who merge physical action with digital exploration as they take part in this exciting world we now call ‘the metaverse’. With its official blockchain racing game, it’s clear that Formula E has become much more than just another motor race; rather it stands at the forefront of our ongoing shift towards sustainable performance.

“Racing is at the core of CUPRA’s DNA, and at CUPRA we go out to win,” said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA.

“It’s the right time to take the next leap forward and join the world’s greatest electric motorsport competition, and I can’t wait to see the ABT CUPRA Formula E team competing in the heart of some of the world’s most iconic cities. Joining the Formula E, a unique motorsport platform, underlines our ambition of becoming a truly global relevant brand, with the aim of inspiring the world from Barcelona.”

In 2023, the ABT CUPRA Formula E team will make a major impression on the racing world with an elite roster of drivers. Robin Frijns from The Netherlands and Nico Müller from Switzerland have signed up for this exciting venture! Both ABT and CUPRA are joining forces as main partners in this endeavour which also involves Mahindra Racing’s powertrain technology to provide cutting edge performance capabilities across all aspects of Electric Motor Racing Platforms – known affectionately as “KönigKlasse”.

CUPRA and ABT

CUPRA and ABT have already joined forces to become the pioneers of electric racing. By partnering with each other, they are reinforcing their shared commitment towards environmental sustainability in motorsport – a vision that began when CUPRA developed the e-Racer as the world’s first all-electric touring car. As evidenced by ABT’s success in Formula E, this electrification partnership promises an exciting future for endurance events around the globe.

In 2021 and 2022, CUPRA achieved the ultimate success in The FIA ETCR World Cup by winning both Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championship double. This feat was made possible due to their commitment to building a reliable e-Racer car – proven when all top three places were filled with drivers from the same team for two consecutive years.

CUPRA is doing their part to help combat climate change with the introduction of an electric-SUV off-road competition, Extreme E. With this initiative, they not only aim to demonstrate how electrifying our world can be beneficial for the environment but also hope that by participating in it we will become more aware of environmental issues faced due to climate change and work towards a sustainable future accordingly.

In 2018, CUPRA set out to revolutionise racing. With a few trailblazing visionaries on board and an unwavering commitment to performance enhancement, the brand has continued down its path of progress; redefining how we experience this beloved sport while stirring up new emotions along the way.
