The electric revolution at Nissan is gaining momentum. With major developments on the horizon, the iconic Sunderland plant – the UK’s largest car manufacturing facility – is preparing to deliver the next generation of electrified vehicles to British roads.

All-New LEAF: A Pioneer, Reimagined
The original Nissan LEAF made history in 2010 as the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle. Now, it’s set to return in an all-new third-generation form, with production beginning at Sunderland later this year.
Built on the advanced CMF-EV platform – shared with the stylish Nissan Ariya – the next-gen LEAF promises a more aerodynamic design, improved range, and an even more refined driving experience.
This new model will be a cornerstone of EV36Zero, Nissan’s industry-leading blueprint for a sustainable future. The initiative integrates vehicle production, battery manufacturing, and renewable energy into a single ecosystem based in Sunderland, helping ensure Nissan’s electric future is truly made in Britain.
Qashqai e-POWER: Smarter, Smoother, and More Efficient
The award-winning Qashqai e-POWER is set to receive a major update in 2025, bringing improvements in three key areas:
- Reduced emissions
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Greater refinement and responsiveness
Inspired by the Japanese principle of Kaizen (continuous improvement), these enhancements make the e-POWER system feel even closer to a pure EV – while still offering the flexibility of petrol-powered range.
For those new to e-POWER, it’s Nissan’s unique hybrid system where the petrol engine charges the battery, but only the electric motor drives the wheels. The result is a smooth, quiet, and responsive drive – with no need to plug in.
Over 250,000 European drivers have already experienced the benefits of e-POWER since its debut, and this update aims to take that success even further.
Electric JUKE: Looking Further Ahead
Exciting things are also in store for fans of the JUKE. A fully electric version is scheduled to arrive in 2026, forming the third generation of this popular compact crossover.
Drawing inspiration from the bold Hyper Punk concept car shown at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the next JUKE promises futuristic design, next-gen tech, and 100% electric performance.
Why It Matters for UK Drivers
Whether you’re ready to go fully electric or are looking for a bridge between petrol and EV driving, Nissan’s evolving electrified range has something for everyone. From the reinvented LEAF to the upgraded Qashqai e-POWER and future JUKE EV, drivers will soon have more sustainable, smart, and stylish options than ever.
David Moss, Senior Vice President of Research & Development for Nissan AMIEO, sums it up:
“Having reinvented the hybrid with the introduction of e-POWER by making it quieter and more responsive than a traditional hybrid, the forthcoming updates to e-POWER will make it even more efficient, more refined and closer overall to a pure EV-driving experience.”
